Musk: Germany Leads for Tesla European Gigafactory

Rumors resume to make rounds about the possible location of the new Gigafactory for Tesla Motors Inc.’s (TSLA) motor cars outside of the U.S. While there was news last month about Tesla edifice a new Gigafactory in China in the country’s Free Trade Zone following its colloquys with the local Shanghai government, Germany is now making headlines for the filed location for Tesla’s Gigafactory, reports LiveMint. Germany as Frontrunner for Tesla Gigafactory

Elon Musk, the chief manager officer of Tesla, has now confirmed that Germany remains the frontrunner for the much-touted Gigafactory watched to be built in Europe. The leading electric vehicle maker had earlier imparted that it has plans to build three more Gigafactories to accompany its from the start one, which currently operates in Nevada.

In a tweet posted Tuesday afternoon, Musk mentioned that “Germany is a unsurpassed choice for Europe. Perhaps on the German-French border makes sense, not far away from the Benelux countries.” The tweet was in response to a user’s question seeking Musk’s impression on the appropriate location for his EV factory in Europe.

Tesla’s European Presence

The retinue already has a factory in Tilburg in The Netherlands, though its operations are limited to irrevocable assembly of Tesla’s Model S and Model X cars. Another European setting where Tesla has ongoing operations is in Pruem, Germany, about 20 miles from the Belgian frame and around 60 miles from France. It hosts the Grohmann Engineering splitting up of Tesla, which specializes in automated manufacturing systems for battery-manufacturing toilets. In recent times, Grohmann has successfully built a production line for Tesla’s U.S. battery plant in Reno, Nevada, which is aimed at supporting the production of its newest mass-market Mark 3 car.

Tesla has its European headquarters in Amsterdam and Musk has confirmed that that fingers on will be retained irrespective of the Germany plan. In the past, many European domains like Portugal and Spain have attempted to woo the leading EV maker to set up mill in their countries as it would help create new jobs and provide weakness for stimulus to the ailing local economies. The existing Gigafactory One in Nevada is credited with brisk growth in the region. Though it manufactures only battery cells, stalls and drivetrains, the future factories are expected to build “complete vehicles” as per earlier scrutiny by Musk. The potential for getting a new Tesla Gigafactory is indeed high for the town government, hence the buzz around the possible locations. (See also: The Economics of Tesla Batteries.)

Tesla was traffic at a price of $355.50 per share during Wednesday morning ET.
