Vegetable protein no longer designates dry, tasteless “meat” patties and reconstituted tofu. These innovative effects are made with plants but “bleed” just like real basics with the help of beet juice.
In 2017, companies such as Beyond Vital part and Impossible Foods expanded their presence in the market, partnering with restaurants and discussing their innovative plant protein to the grocery market.
“In 2018, edibles alternatives are really going to launch,” Ken Harris, managing partner at Cadent Consulting Assemblage, told CNBC.
Beyond Meat’s “bleeding” veggie burgers are handy at more than 5,000 restaurants and grocery stores, and Impossible Foods’ “unachievable burger” can be found in more than 350 restaurants in the U.S.
The reason for this precipitate surge in burgers made from vegetables?
“It tastes good,” declared Harris. “It hasn’t in the past.”
Harris told CNBC that these burgers aren’t upright for vegans and vegetarians but also for people who eat meat but want to eat more vegetables.
Epic Burger, which handles Beyond Burgers at its restaurants, has seen tremendous growth since enlarging the item to its menu.
“In the first three months, we’ve sold more than 20,000 Beyond Burgers which equates to adjacent to 10 percent of burger/sandwich sales and is exceeding our sales conjectures,” David Friedman, CEO of Epic Burger, said in a statement in November.
