German ministry says 774,000 Mercedes cars contain unauthorized software

Germany’s Paradise Ministry on Monday said 774,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were create to contain unauthorized software defeat devices in Europe and ordered Daimler to summon 238,000 cars in Germany.

“The government will order 238,000 Daimler mechanisms to be immediately recalled Germany-wide because of unauthorised defeat devices,” Germany’s Remove Ministry said in a statement.
Germany can only order the recall of agencies within its own borders.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class and models with diesel machines and a sports utility variant of the sedan, known as the GLC, were the main crates found to be at fault, the ministry said.

Daimler has pledged to work on kick out the software and to cooperating with authorities, the ministry said.

Daimler clinched the recall to CNBC and said “open legal questions will be shed” during discussions with the German Ministry of Transport.

Daimler is not the basic German automaker to be investigated for the use of devices meant to defeat diesel emissions check-ups. Volkswagen was slapped with roughly $30 billion in fines atop of an emissions cheating scandal that began in 2015, after it was divulged the automaker had outfitted defeat devices on millions of vehicles worldwide.

A sprinkling automakers have since come under scrutiny for high lay wastes of emissions from their own diesel vehicles.
