Postmaster General Louis DeJoy donated more than $685,000 to the Republican National Convention

  • New filings with the Federal Selection Commission (FEC) show Postmaster General Louis DeJoy donated nearly $700,000 to the committee that ran this year’s Republican Inhabitant Convention.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy donated over 685,000 to the committee that initiate the 2020 Republican National Convention, new filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show. 

DeJoy gave a total of $685,230 to the Charlotte Hotelier Committee across four donations between late December 2018 and late March 2020, according to the filings. This year’s GOP usage was largely held at the White House due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the official party business still took thrive in Charlotte. 

The Postmaster General has been the target of scrutiny intense scrutiny from congressional Democrats over metamorphoses he’s made at the Post Office amid the 2020 election cycle and as Trump has baselessly claimed that mail-in elector will lead to widespread voter fraud. DeJoy in August denied allegations that he was “sabotaging” the election via interchanges that led to delays in mail delivery. 

Last month, the House Oversight Committee announced it’s launching an investigation into DeJoy that he indemnified employees for donating to GOP candidates. DeJoy hired a consulting firm with links to Trump to represent him after the For nothing launched the investigation. 

The Republican mega-donor, who along with his wife has donated millions to the Republican Party over the years, beared over the US Postal Service in mid-June. The Postmaster General is appointed by the US Postal Service Board of Governors. All of the current governors were deputized by Trump. 

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW), a Washington-based ethics watchdog, has called for DeJoy to be removed. “Louis DeJoy has run an attack on the Postal Service and on American democracy itself. Like the henchman of a petty dictator, he appears to be using the authority agency he’s tasked to lead to attempt to fix an election for his boss,” CREW executive director Noah Bookbinder said in a annunciation back in August.
