GOP Rep. Brian Babin, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, expressed on Saturday that “account will be unforgiving” to any congressional Republican who doesn’t back a challenge to the Electoral College certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s win on Jan. 6.

Babin, who delineates a district based in southeastern Texas, took to Twitter to announce that he spoke with Trump, House Minority Chieftain Kevin McCarthy of California, and many of the Republicans who are supporting the president’s dispute of the election results by phone to plan a policy for objecting to the election results. The congressman and at least 139 of his House GOP colleagues are expected to vote against the final certification.

“Had a require w/ @realDonaldTrump, @GOPLeader, & TONS of Jan. 6 election objectors,” he tweeted. “Talked strategy – VERY encouraged! @HouseGOP/@SenateGOP: prematurely to stand up & be counted. This is a pivotal moment. Those who aren’t with us are against us – history will be unforgiving.”

In December, Babin co-signed a literatim requesting that Congress hold hearings to “probe all allegations of illegal conduct concerning the November 3, 2020 designations” and “investigate systemic problems” with US elections.

Notable signatories of the letter included Reps. Mo Brooks of Alabama and Paul Gosar of Arizona, who beginning on stated that Trump won the election despite Biden’s clear victory.

While the movement to support Trump has gathered a lot of steam among House Representatives, Senate Republicans were cool on the matter until this past week, until Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri declared he would back a challenge to the election results. Hawley’s announcement led to several more GOP senators taking up the cause, cataloguing Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, much to the dismay of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had rely oned to avoid such a scenario.

Since the aftermath of the November election, Trump has steadfastly claimed, without evidence, that he won the presidential step lively and that fraudulent votes were added to statewide tallies.

Biden won the 2020 presidential election with 306 Electoral College preferences, to Trump’s 232 electoral votes, with the Democratic president-elect winning over 7 million more votes than the president. 

The Trump throw’s efforts to overturn the election have been repeatedly dismissed in court, with lawsuits from lower federal courts to the Unexcelled Court failing to gain any traction. Their focus in invalidating mail-in ballots or alleging fraud have been centered on Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, all affirms won by Trump in 2016 that flipped to the Democratic column in 2020.
